How Do You Draw A Collared Shirt

What Is A Standard mandarin Collar?

Measurements for a Mandarin Neckband Pattern

Mandarin collars tin range in depth and shape, though typically they are a not-convertible stand neckband. This means that when sewn onto the garment neckline, they do not 'convert'. They just stand up.

Remember of a shirt collar. It has a stand which the neckband is and then attached besides. The mandarin collar is much like the stand part of the shirt collar.

Taking Measurements For Chinese Collar

To draft the pattern, showtime by measuring the neckline on the pattern. Nosotros want to be measuring the STITCHLINE, not the pattern border. And nosotros need to employ our tape measure out on it's edge for a more than authentic measurement.

Drafting the Mandarin Collar Design

1. Now, take a ruler or blueprint master – whichever is your tool of choice – and depict a direct line about 2cm from the bottom edge of a piece of paper.

3. Measure along the bottom line and identify a marker equal to the measurement you took from heart dorsum to shoulder point. Here I use is 9cm.
4. Square a line upwards from hither and make a note that this is your shoulder line. We volition notch this later on.
5. Measure another point farther along the bottom line that is the same measurement as the shoulder betoken to the middle front. Mine is 10.5cm.
6. You will also demand to add on the button stand up width as well. Don't forget that your button stand width is determined by the size of your push! My button stand is 3cm wide. (In the video below I have halved the button stand amount so that the collar meets and doesn't overlap. On the silk Jude shirt I made recently I actually decided to extend the collar and so that there was an overlap and room for a button too.)
8. Foursquare up 90º from this point.
9. Brand a marking 1.5cm up from this bottom line. This is where nosotros describe in a slight gentle curved line from our shoulder point to this marked bespeak.
10. Moving back to the eye back section, mark the chosen width of your collar on the centre back line. I am going for 3.5cm here in this example.

To save cutting, I often cheat and cut the collar on the fold, only traditionally y'all would reflect the blueprint from the centre back so that y'all have i long collar pattern piece.

Mark Up Your Mandarin Collar Pattern

The design should also have information on it including:

• The style name or number (The Jude Shirt)
• The garment section (Collar)
• Size
• How many to cut (One on fold? A pair?)
• What to cut (self fabric and / or interfacing?)
• Whether seam allowance is included, and how much
